The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (BCIE) (acronym from Banco Centroamericano de Integracion Economico) was established on 13 December 1960’s Articles of Agreement to promote economic integration development for its members.

Community of Democracies

The Community of Democracies (CD) was established on 27 June 2000 “to respect and uphold core democratic principles and practices,” including free and fair elections, freedom of speech and expression, equal access to education, the rule of law, and freedom of peaceful assembly.

Group of 20

The Group of 20 (G-20) was established in 1999 to promote open and constructive discussion between industrial and emerging-market countries on any issues related to global economic stability.


The Central American Integration System (SICA) was established on 13 December 1991 (operational from 1 February 1993) to strengthen democracy and set up a new regional security model to promote freedom.
